Benefits
-When to get a cut
The less coily the curl the more frequent the cut. Coilly and curly hair will tend to grow out, not down.
Each curl has to make a 360 degree loop before elongating ever so slightly which is why it may take months between haircuts for healthy hair!
-Trim or cut, what’s the difference?
Any time I pick up my scissors, you’re booking a “Haircut!” However there are some nuances and vocab you can use with Alexandra during your consultation to make sure you’re both on the same page!
- “Transformational Cut” is cutting a whole new shape. Think long hair past your shoulders cut to a bob style. Or taking someone with no face framing layers and creating bangs.
- “Haircut” is basically taking off an inch or two and giving your hair a fresh pick-me-up!
- “Trim” is you really not wanting any length taken off! BUT you know you need it!
-Why get a cut?
Getting your hair cut depends on the health of each individual hair strand. Depending on hydration, moisture, split-ends, scalp health, heat damage and more – you may need frequent visits! Especially if you are a versatile girl – going from protective styles to natural to silk-press.. You need to get a trim in there!!
-How much to cut?
If you’re experiencing heat damage or split ends, booking a Haircut or even Transformational Cut is in your future. If you decide length is more important than hair health then you will experience breakage! If you book a Trim hoping it will do the trick, you may be wrong. You need to cut above the split end.. or that story just continues after you leave the salon!
How much to cut really depends on what the hair needs! Book a consultation and you and Alexandra can discuss what’s appropriate for you!
-Which cuts goes with which face shape?
Choosing the best cut for you is a combination of your style, comfortability, and face shape.
Let’s take a closer look at these three.
- Style: Who are you at your core and what do you want to express to the world through your hair? Big question right!? Maybe you are more introverted and want the shape to cover you up a bit. OR! You’re ready for the spotlight and opening up your face with bangs or layers is yer thing!!
- Comfortability: Being comfortable with your look is SO important and equally as important is being able to style it! How much time do you have on the daily/weekly? What products do you like to use? Use these questions when you start thinking about what haircut is best for you!
- Face Shape: Alexandra personally pays close attention to bone structure and face shape when she is consulting with you on your hair style. It’s important to bring comfort to this part of the conversation.
Some markers to address here are long necks and oval face shapes. These pair amazingly with bob lengths as this cut adds angles and directs the eye to certain features. Someone with a shorter stature would look so good with a pixie or short fro as this look can elongate!
-Maintenance
Understanding when to come back for a cut and or treatment is SO important! Honestly, the answer depends on what actions you take or don’t take at home. No shade here! If you want Alexandra to take care of your curls on a permanent basis she is here for you! That may look like weekly wash+gos at the salon and quarterly haircuts/trims.
However if your journey is allowing you to do weekly + maintenance at home you will see Alexandra less. This may look like haircuts twice a year with bi-monthly conditioning treatments.
Alexandra definitely talks about these options during your appointment.
The important takeaway is…She’s got you!
-Products used at the shop
Alexandra has extensively researched amazing brands that she uses and makes sure they are healthy and helpful for your scalp and hair. The shampoos, conditioners, and treatments are always safe for color-treated hair, free of synthetic fragrances, parabens, and sulfates.
